Project Description

In October 2006 Albatech Building Restoration Inc. commenced work on 180 Wellington Street West Parking Garage Ramp Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Project.

The underground parking structure at 180 Wellington Street West is a three level garage with two suspended levels and one on grade parking level. The structural system of this garage is cast-in-place reinforced concrete with 240 mm thick reinforced two-way flat slabs supported by rectangular columns and foundation walls.

There was extensive progressive deterioration at the bottom of first level parking garage suspended ramp including the presence of exposed and rusted metal reinforcement. The requirement of this project was to keep the garage operational at all times. Due to the existing dangerous conditions, the bottom of the suspended ramp slab was to be replaced. The entire project was performed in six weekends working at night on Fridays and Saturday mornings.

This rehabilitation program started with the mobilization and set up of the site and involved:

• Removal of the existing concrete topping, hot-rubberized waterproofing membrane, existing part of the suspended slab including trench drain and mastic topping;
• Installation of a new structural slab at the bottom of the ramp including a new 12” fiberglass trench drain and all required piping;
• Installation of a new waterproofing membrane, concrete topping and a new heavy duty thin traffic deck system at the trench drain location;
• Reinstatement of the existing sprinkler system.
